if my public relations research and analysis class is teaching me anything, it's about the differences between boys and girls. case in point: the other day we had two focus groups being run concurrently, one of boys and one of girls. both were on the same subject (girls and sex) and they were going on in our fancy schmancy elc center, where you can watch people through those one-way mirrors. i love it because i always feel like i'm in face/off. or beverly hills cop.

here's a little compare/contrast of the highlights (note: most of these participants were members of fraternities and sororities, if that means anything):

how many sexual partners is too many for a girl?
girls, collectively: more than five, maybe?
boy 1: 30?
boy 2: 1?

what do you think of when you hear a girl is a virgin?
girls: wow.
boys: if she's pretty, i think that that's rad - she has great morals. if she's a dog, well, then there's a reason for it, isn't there?

the nicest thing that came out of the boys:
"when i see a girl doing the walk of shame, i always think, hey man, you couldn't have at least given her a ride?"

last night ryan killeen kicked our win-clinching field goal with a few minutes left to go against the bears. and he did it right in front of me. i got to stand on the sidelines for the last five minutes of last night's cal game, and they were some of the most exhilarating minutes of my life. i've really grown to enjoy college football this year in a way i never have before, but i swear i was ready to sell my soul last night for the opportunity to stand there every saturday.

we also got to hang out in the press box (awesome) and go to the post-game press conference (good only because i knew carson palmer was showering on the other side of the wall), but the best part of the evening - even better than watching sultan mcculloch (that cocky bastard) get tackled about five feet away was what happened after all that. i stayed after the press conference to ask my teacher a question, so when i finally made my way out of there alone i had no idea where to go. so i decided to walk back toward the field. what followed was something i will always remember when i think back to being a trojan. except for a couple of security and janitors, i was alone on the coliseum field. as my friend ben put it, "the gridiron of gridirons, over a hundred years old, where hundreds of millions of people have watched and played football." i did this dazed slow-motion walk through the goal area, and then found myself standing in the center of the "trojans" markings on the 50 yard line, where i proceeded to do a slow 360 turn, making a memory* of the most perfect usc moment of my life. i'm pretty sure my eyes even welled up.

then i pretended i had just caught a long pass from carson and ran down the field. it was cool. so shut up.

then my friends came over to help me with duty and we watched the new beauty and the beast dvd, and one of them delivered the choice line that she would do it with the beast "any way he wanted it". my friends are classy.

also, if you are into rad poetry and guys who like curtains, check out my best italy friend's website about the drama of being so damn talented and so damn good-looking in leather pants. seriously, the guy's got a way with words. just try to ignore the fact that he misspelled his middle name in the web address - it's actually 'philip' with one 'l'. what can you do with a kid who's so busy finding words that don't rhyme to put into poems. (i love you)
